Are you ready to discover some beautiful paintings today? I recently found artist Dora Foldes on Instagram (@foldes_dora) and followed a link from her bio to her website and wow - such vibrant, lovely work! I have to share it with you today for a burst of energetic color and to remind you that summer isn’t that far away…
Dora is a painter living and working in an old farmhouse outside of Berlin. Born in Hungary but raised between Paris and Budapest, she relocated with her husband and son to a rural 200-year-old farm.
She always knew she wanted to pursue an artistic profession since childhood, as a young girl her mother frequently brought her to museums including the Louvre which obviously made an impression and around her home, you could find many art and art history books along with Dora always with paints and pencils drawing at her table.
When Dora was ready for university, she studied philosophy, psychopedagogy and she earned a master’s degree in Public Policy. Yet, painting her paints were calling to her…
This painting above is my favorite, I just love it. Do you see one that you feel naturally attracted to, as well?
Dora eventually followed her heart and used Instagram to follow her passion at first, and still uses the platform today. At first, she kept her Instagram private and today, she’s public and also has her own website where she sells her work though most of her sales come through word-of-mouth and Instagram.
To learn more about Dora, or to see her farmhouse, you can visit the beautiful blog Herz & Blut where most of these photos came from, or read more about her at Artworks where you can purchase some of her work here.
Artist statement:
Dora Foldes' most recent work turns the artist's naturalistic lens beyond the female body - main object of her previous work - in search of a genderless, more universal subject matter.
In both its source and simplicity of process, the new series of drawings and paintings continues to democratise art: reflecting the artist's fascination with art created outside of the boundaries of the established art world. Given the origins of her work, Dora Foldes coins the term insider art to interpret her creations rooting in the exploration of the unity of the Self and the Other. In a constant quest of a safer place, her work contemplates the elemental beauty of life.
Taking an observant point of view, the artist depicts our world from a star's eye perspective and sheds light on some of its overlooked corners of happiness. The new series invite the viewers to explore the present moment in its entirety to discover places of hidden stillness covered under a pile of negativity brought by the turmoil of our world.
