Why Mineral-Based Paint Is THE Interior Trend of the Moment
And how I was already there decades ago...
Back in 2020, when the world was feeling uncertain and interiors became our new refuge, I stood in my studio space in Hannover with a bold idea: why not try something I’m not seeing on walls yet in Germany or in that many Instagram-homes. Why not use a sustainable, non-toxic, mineral-based paint?

It wasn’t trending (yet). No spreads in shelter mags, no creators swirling clay-based paint on their bedroom walls with a natural brush. But I had a gut feeling. I wanted a space that felt grounded, soulful, tactile, and real.

I’d always loved the raw walls in old apartments, right before investors come in and strip away the patina and toss up drywall. The old walls in properties - like the ones in my grandmother’s farmhouse that I grew up around, and the historical buildings I visited in the south were I was raised - former plantations, historical buildings up and down the coast of South Carolina, these estates were so imperfect and beautiful to me.

My mother was a florist who loved to paint her flowers on canvas with oil paints, and she was a wonderful decorator. She made all of our curtains and shades, our shower curtains, blinds, duvet covers and cushions. She loved to buy beautiful fabrics and make something amazing from them.
