I’m Holly Becker, and I'm thrilled to have you here! As a 4x best-selling author and interior designer, I’m happy to be writing one of the only design Substack’s out there with a focus on interiors and the home.

My story may not be that different from yours, I started at zero but had big dreams that most people thought were totally crazy. I resigned from my comfortable corporate job in Boston as a Project Manager in Space Planning to return to uni and follow my original passion - Interior Design. I started a blog a few years later and and embarked on an exciting journey of writing online at a time when blogs were brand new and no one knew anything about them. I was determined to change that, and to someday be able to write for magazines and have my own books. After a ton of snarky, “Come back to us later when you’re an actual writer”, from leading magazines in the USA, I nearly lost my faith but I pursued writing on my blog in an attempt to prove myself.

I launched my blog, decor8, in January 2006, and not only did that blog change my career and eventually landed me with columns for some of the largest newspapers and magazines in the United States, my blog became the authority on design that magazines actually envied. I got my first book deal in 2010 and have written 4 bestsellers since. I plan to write more, but am using Substack as a new space for me to explore the digital landscape since I felt that I deserved to be here because I have something to say on a topic that few Substackers are covering. So why not me?

I'm an inquisitive and creative American expat, happily embracing life abroad in northern Germany with my German husband and our wonderful 10-year-old son, Aidan. Over the past 18 years, I've immersed myself in the exciting world of interior design, building my own brand from the ground up through decor8. With my books, blog posts, lectures, magazines, podcasts, online classes, and more, I've made it my mission to share my education, experience, research and bi-continental design and trend expertise to you.

Think about it. how many American designers are experts in both what’s happening in their own country and in the entire of Europe? You’ve just met one of them - me. And that’s why my Substack has value to you. I can show you two worlds and how they often collide and where they differ.

I've honed my skills as a content creator, writer, stylist, and photographer after 18 years in this industry. My work has graced the pages of countless books, hundreds of magazines, catalogs, newspapers, and blogs. In addition to continuing my journey on decor8, which I still maintain today, I'm excited to expand my community here on Substack and post things here that are exclusive and that give you access to me that you won’t find anywhere else. It is here where I’ll answer your design questions, engage with you in a live webinar, or answer your questions in my Substack-only podcast called RESTYLE.

My client roster includes renowned names such as Domino, The Boston Globe, Real Simple, Living At Home, Flow, West Elm, Anthropologie, Ferm Living, Jonathan Adler, Martha Stewart, and many others. I collaborate with brands, develop products, and lend my expertise as a consultant and speaker at prominent industry events. I also create fair concepts for trend exhibitions at leading design fairs in Europe.

Being an online educator since 2009, I also empowered women to build creative careers as I have. I teach a wide range of skills, from content creation and photography to styling, online marketing, mood board creation, and email list building.

My primary focus on Substack is to show you how to create a home that is practical and organized but also very cozy, stylish, authentic, and filled with love. Through words, images, videos, and audio files, I share personal stories, reports, and valuable insights here on my Substack that you won’t find anywhere else, including my podcast: RESTYLE.
