It’s time to get more creative in bed. And I don’t mean THAT. I mean this.
Yesssss people. This right here. Checks and stripes and animal prints - oh my! It’s about time to mix in a little wild to the straight-laced stripes in bed, to break away from the safe cream duvet with the cream skirting. I guess this applies to lots of things, eh? :) Break free from what’s expected!
Seriously though, how fun is this bedding from Society of Wanderers?
How about a little retro floral mix to your checks, spots and stripes?
How about adding in a 4th pattern?
How about a little black and white for Fall?
It even works in a kid’s room.
Look at this delicious mix of patterns for the bed.
Here’s how they look on a bed. I mean really… This brings back waves of nostalgia from my childhood in my great grandmother’s old Rhode Island farmhouse by the sea.
Sorbet. Pure Sorbet.
Retro coastal beach cottage?
“Now Holly”, you may say, “this looks lovely but when I try to mix patterns my bed looks ridiculous.” Here is how you can approach it:
Use patterns that coordinate, working off of the same color palette. Let's experiment with three patterns in this example:
For your first layer, incorporate either a solid or a small understated print into the mix for a foundation. Or a large check in a solid color paired with cream, which reads overall as a solid.
For the next layer go for a favorite pattern, perhaps something floral or an animal print. Make sure you have at least one coordinating color from your "foundation" pattern in this one. You can go as bold as you'd like with pattern or keep it simple. It’s all about personal preference.
Now for the third layer, this is where you'll play with scale a little. Look for a pattern that complements your second layer either on a smaller scale (at least 50% smaller) or a stripe or check.
Have fun in bed, that’s the most important tip I can give you. Enjoy layering patterns and play around a bit to see what works.
Do you love a good pattern mix on the bed?
Thank you for this new topic.
Generally speaking, mixing patterns can be interesting. This particular line of photographs does not resonate with me. But, not to worry... all is good.
With bedding, I prefer more calmness to be honest. My bedcover has an "Indiennes" pattern, which is colorful and busy enough. So when mixing further textiles, I prefer solids. Perhaps a pillow gets a bit more freedom. That is about it.
I'm liking the idea of it. I have a en eclectic home and this sort of mix would fit right in, in perhaps a darker color way. My plan is to completely whiten our bedroom ( tiny window) and add color through textiles. You got me thinking now..
