Thank for writing this. I needed your concrete examples of how to do this. Your photos and descriptions are so very helpful to tell me how to get started—and where. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I love your very accurate description of the function of an entry! My home was built with the entry opening directly into the kitchen, and there was no flow to the house. Everyone’s boots and gear were constantly being tripped over. I added a Mudroom to transition guests and family from the harsh elements into our home. I would love to see you write about powder rooms; those can be so charming and challenging to design
I have the same problem, but I don't have the space to create a mudroom or foyer. Both entrances are off my carport, one leads straight into the kitchen, the other is a short, covered porch to the front door that goes straight into the living room. I have struggled to make a landing pad in the entryway! The front door is also unusable due to the way it leads from the carport - the cars block the porch enterance. Entering into the kitchen, shoes are shoved under the sideboard and purse dropped on the kitchen table. I would love help coming up with a solution!
I also love entryways, foyers, halls! I agree that they set the tone for the house and tell you a bit - just a bit - about the people inhabiting it!
So true!
